Be wise in your dealings with the people in your DM

Caveat: This post does not come from a place of condescension but rather from a curious mind. Please bear with me.

Since the advent of social media and the proliferation of social platforms, we’ve seen communication patterns between human beings evolve. The world has become a considerably smaller place and it has become much easier to make new friends, connect old ones and forge stronger relationships.

I’ll skip the Yahoo Messenger, Skype, BBM, Whatsapp shenanigans and head on straight to Instagram, one of the newest and most popular social media platforms in our times.

When Instagram first became a thing, users stuck to its major purpose. A photo sharing app, it was called so we all just shared photos until we realised we could do more. Send messages. Wow. So we got into it, exchanged few messages with friends and moved. It wasn’t really the type of place for a lengthy conversation, we have Whatsapp for that.

Fast forward to this present day of DMs when celebrities like Banky W and Adesua Etomi have set most of us impressionable young people on a path. ‘You can totally slide into a lady or guys’ DM, say a few jokes and voila, you both are married’. My summary is almost synonymous with the real story although it’s obviously not as simple as I’ve put it but I’m sure you get the gist.

“Sliding into DMs” is a legitimate part of this generation and it has gotten the endorsement of a good number of the personalities many young people look up to. Good stuff still.

The only downside to this DM matter is what your celebrities may not tell you and I here it is spelt out in separate expressions all pointing to the same thing: You gotta use your sense inside the DM, Your brain must slide into the DM with you, It is rough on the DM streets so you have to shine your eye, Calm down on this DM matter and operate with sense.

One thing is constant in everything I’ve said: sense.

If you’re wondering how this passionate warning came to be, I’ll enlighten you. It came to my notice that some ladies are turning themselves into DM whores consciously or otherwise. So this girl met this guy who slid into her DM, they got talking for a week, they met up in person for a date, had sex that day and now she’s pregnant. The only question that keeps coming out of my mouth is HOW? How did you even let this happen to yourself? How did you let someone fool you so much and what was it that this guy said in your DM that weakened you like this?

I just think its all shades of low to meet up with someone you met in your DM in one week or less, except if it’s for business. While you spend your days in pain and hurt, DMs will always remain. You need to be wise in your DM relations and that’s all I’m saying.
